When Thunder Strikes
Growing up with a mother that works as an interior designer and having a grandpa that created an Architectual and interior design company has its ups and downs. The downside would be having to check with every single family member before you redecorated your house or just your room, to make sure it has the Spletzer stamp of approval. On the upside, I grew up in a creative family that grew my creative eye as a kid. I went from putting stickers on my bed that I was told not to, now I want to be an interior designer myself and hopefully have my own company one day.
Ice Cream and Daydreams
As mentioned prior, my grandfather created a family business, called Christel developers, out of nothing. He flied from Germany near the end of WW2 and bought his first piece of land at the age of 16. He was the “founder” of the creative family that I have the pleasure to grow up in. My motivation and inspiration for starting my own company comes from my grandpa. Seeing what he has created has always been inspiring. How he first started off with a company called R Spletzer decorating that was a painting company, to then crystal constructions, to now crystal developers. He did all this while also raising 4 daughters. But my love for interior design and creating beautiful things originally came from my mom. As much as I kind of hate to admit it, she flamed the spark of my individualistic creativity, you could say she was the highest investor. Whenever I had days off in elementary school, I would go with my mom to her work and sit under her desk and draw. Occasionally, I would go with her when she would go to Furniture stores and paint shops; they fascinated me. I always found those days fun. There is something about watching someone else be passionate about their work that makes you passionate about it too. My mom and grandpa definitely did a good job at crafting this passion of mine.
The Fall of Leaves
Right now, I am working on redoing the staff room at MBCI. The way the room looks right now is terrible! There are no places for the staff to sit in and relax and it is a big space with a whole lot of nothing inside of it. Recently I sent out a survey to the staff at MBCI to see why most of them aren’t using the room, and what would make the space better. A lot of them said that they don’t like how there is no place to relax and if there was one, they would use the room. So, my main goal for the room is to make it a welcoming space by adding some colour and great places for the staff to sit down and relax. As well as adding some fun activities there like a pool table and a sound system to play music through. These are just some of my ideas and I would tell you all of them because I don’t want to ruin the surprise.
